Anwar Masood is a Popular Pakistani Comic Poet who has written in Urdu, Persian, and Punjabi. However, his Punjabi Literature is more famous. Anwar’s Poetry usually reflects the Punjabi Culture and focuses on daily life activities. Masood uses an entertaining and humorous style to address social issues like social injustice, discrimination, and Husband-Wife Contentions. In recognition of his extraordinary services, the Government of Pakistan awarded him with Presidential Pride of Performance.
Anwar Masood’s Family
He was Born to Muhammad Azeem and Iqbal Begum. No information is available about Anwar Masood’s brothers and sisters. In 1965, he married his classmate, Qudrat Ilahi Siddiqa, and they have five children. Siddiqa was his fellow in Punjab University and they both have earned M.A Degrees in Persian. Siddiqa Anwar remained Lecturer of Persian Studies in Government College, 6th Road, Rawalpindi for several years.
Anwar Masood’s Early Life, and Career
Masood was born in 1935, and currently, his age is 85. Anwar Masood’s family migrated to Lahore from Gujrat before the Independence of Pakistan, and later, they relocated to Gujrat. Anwar received his Elementary and Secondary Education from Gujrat and Lahore. Next, he completed his Bachelors in Arts with Excellent results from the University of Punjab. After that, he earned a Master’s Degree in Persian from Oriental College, Lahore. He was the first Gold Medalist of the Persian Department, University of Punjab.
Anwar Masood started his career with teaching, but later, he shifted towards poetry. He started writing funny poetry in Punjabi along with Persian and Urdu. His famous Poems include Chaa ty Lassi, Anar Kali Diyan Shanan, Aj Kee Pakaeay, Juma Bazaar, Jehlum Dey Pul Tey, Hun Ki Karye, Mela Akhian Da, Ambri, etc. The audience repeatedly desires to listen to his famous poems in every Gathering.
