New COVID-19 wave is hitting Pakistan along with its African Variant Omicron

With the rising number of Corona Cases in Pakistan, the Positivity rate of COVID approaches 12%. Around 500-6500 new cases are being lodged on a daily basis. Sindh’s Capital and Hub of Pakistan’s Economy Karachi is majorly under the grip of novel Coronavirus. There is a 41% Coronavirus Positive Rate in Karachi, Muzaffarabad is in second place with 25%, Hyderabad is third with 17.27%, Federal Capital is in fourth place with 15.37%, Lahore is in fifth place with 14.25%, and Garrison City Rawalpindi and Peshawar have 12.75% and 11.20% CoVID-19 Positive Rates, respectively.

According to the National Command Operation Center, 5 patients died from COVID Infection and 918 patients are in Intensive Care throughout the country as of 20th January 2022. Following are the stats of January 20th shared by NCOC on their Twitter handler: 

  • Total Tests conducted during Last 24 Hours: 58,943
  • Total Positive/Infected Cases: 6808
  • Positivity Rate: 11.55%
  • Deaths during last 24 hours :5
  • Patients in Critical Care: 918

During Last year, COVID was under control in Pakistan and almost all COVID Protocols were waived off, but emergence of South African Omicron across the Globe transformed a few cases to Karachi, Pakistan. Carelessness at Governmental & Individual level has resulted in more cases during January. Started from Karachi, OmiCron and COVID has incorporated its roots in Punjab, KPK and Azad Kashmir. 

Government Plans & Suggestions

Keeping in view the current rise in COVID-19, Government has imposed new restrictions in highly infected areas, Partial/Smart Lockdown is also imposed in regions with enhanced COVID cases and suggestion of closing educational institutes is also under consideration. Local authorities are given the authority to impose Smart Lockdown in their own areas in order to control COVID-19 flow.

  • Always wear Mask 
  • Regularly Sanitize your hands
  • Keek Social DIstance of at least 6 meter
  • Avoid going to overcrowded areas
  • Wear Gloves
  • Eat Healthy, Follow Precautions and Live Happy!
